THE PROJECT
Riot Games approached Mark to provide a 5-part soundtrack to the opening ceremony of their very first esports event centred around the mobile version of the world famous League of Legends game - Wild Rift.
Each of the five sections had distinct atmospheres, yet all needed to capture the lively, playful essence of the games IP and its community.
The event anthem had been crafted by Grammy-winning record producer Bloodpop. With the mesmerising vocals of the Zimbabwean-born Australian singer-songwriter and rapper Tkay Maidza, the track brought a unique fusion of genres that resonated with Riot’s creative team.
However, to fully capture the essence of the project's creative vision and elevate it to new heights, the team decided that the anthem needed a remix that more closely aligned with the narrative. As a globally renowned remixer, Mark's extensive experience became the undeniable factor that made him the natural choice for this task.
This project showcases Mark's versatility, seamlessly blending elements from various genres that also flow together as a cohesive experience.
THE MUSIC
Driving, caper-esque frenetic funk feel utilising re-imagined versions of the in-game main melodic theme.
To elevate and empower the featured ‘Icons’ in the VT, Mark crafted a bombastic and tribal hip-hop feel, enveloping them with a strong sense of gravitas.
The subway scene required a fusion of urban bass and a playful essence of a magical new world set to the driving rhythm of the train tracks.
Uplifting the main anthem, capturing the essence of each scene and evoking a range of emotions in the listeners. Mark crafted multiple modular sections that seamlessly weaved together, building up the energy and intensity as the narrative unfolded. The pinnacle of the track came during the carnivalesque marketplace scene, where the music soared to new heights, mirroring the vibrant and lively atmosphere of the scene.
Building in intensity to the trophy reveal and re-introducing the sonic IP of the game’s in-game themes melody, peaking with the reprise of Tkay’s vocal hook.
